Applying for a Training Analyst Waiver

Note: Please contact Michael Donner, PhD (mbds@sbcglobal.net) with any questions.

Waivers of the requirement to be in analysis with a Training Analyst are possible under certain circumstances. When appropriate and when an accepted candidate for training requests it, waivers are approved by the Training Analyst Chair by May 1.

Waiver applications may be downloaded at this link, completed, and emailed to Tina Phu (tina.phu@sf-cp.org).  For additional information, prospective candidates may consult with the Training Analyst Chair, the PED Chair, or the Dean.

  1. Waivers may be granted for candidates in established analyses of more than one year’s duration, three to five times weekly.
  2. The analyst must have
    1. graduated from an institute accredited by the American Psychoanalytic Association (APsA) or the International Psychoanalytical Association (IPA)
    2. have no ethical violations
    3. be a member of SFCP

If the analyst does not meet the objective criteria, the TA chair will discuss this with the analyst in order to pursue some resolution, and bring it to the PED if necessary for further discussion. The TA Chair will review the application, inform the PED Chair of the approved Waiver, and the PED Chair will inform the applicant. Once the process is complete, the TA Chair brings it to the PED Committee for approval.
