SFCP Guidelines for Requesting Disability Accommodations
The San Francisco Center for Psychoanalysis (SFCP)Â is committed to providing equal educational opportunities to program participants with disabilities. Any individual interested in requesting disability accommodations should contact the SFCP Administrative Director (marcia.hodges@sfcp.org).
- All requests for disability accommodations will be handled on a case-by-case basis with accommodations based on the specific limitations and needs of the program participant in their particular program. SFCP will make accommodations to allow program participants to participate in SFCP programs unless the accommodation would impose an undue hardship on SFCP or fundamentally alter the nature of the SFCP program.
- In some cases a program participant may need to provide information from a health care provider verifying the existence of a disability and describing the nature of the disability, any limitations resulting from the disability, and the specific accommodation(s) needed. Program participants’ medical information, including information about the nature of any disability, will be kept confidential.
- Requests for disability accommodations will be kept confidential to the extent possible, consistent with the need to evaluate the request and implement any accommodations that are granted. The Administrative Director may need to involve other individuals in the process of addressing the request, such as the SFCP Leadership Team and/or the chair/faculty/staff associated with the participant’s program. In many cases, potential obstacles and solutions to the request can only be discovered via communication with the individuals who are very familiar with program details.
- The program participant will be informed in writing of any accommodations being made, and the accommodations will be communicated to any individuals at SFCP who will be responsible for implementing the accommodations. If circumstances change or modifications to the accommodations are needed, the program participant should contact the Administrative Director again.
- In some instances, it may be helpful for a program participant to have a direct conversation with the Program Chair/faculty/staff regarding the limitations being accommodated to aid the effective implementation of accommodations. The Administrative Director can help facilitate this conversation as needed. All such conversations will be kept confidential.
- If the SFCP Leadership Team determines that – despite best efforts – the request cannot be accommodated without imposing undue hardship on SFCP or fundamentally altering the nature of the educational program, the individual requesting accommodations will be informed in writing by the Administrative Director of the specific reasons for denial of their request.  The individual remains welcome to enroll and participate in the program if they are otherwise qualified and choose to do so.
