Engagement Survey Preliminary Results

We are pleased to present the results of our first survey, which is in regard to Engagement.  A total of 179 people responded.  We are excited about the number of you that have participated.

Below you will find preliminary results of the Engagement Survey recently sent as the beginning of  member participation in the Strategic Plan process.  When we sent the survey, we indicated the results will remain confidential so  we are respecting that in these preliminary results.  

Below You will find for each question, the bar graph results, the “Answer Choices” responses in percentages, and total number of responses.

We looked at the comments and grouped them to create themes. This was done simply through discussion to give you a general sense of the replies.  We will review  the data in more depth later.

Question One

Question One: Check up to three of your top reasons for being a member of SFCP?
There were 10 comments. No themes were generated due to the personal nature of the comments.

Question Two

Question Two: Given your reasons for being a member of SFCP, how satisfied are you with being a member?
There were 19 respondents with comments; no themes emerged as they were a mix of being satisfied and dissatisfied.  

64% indicated very or somewhat satisfied with membership.

Question Three

Question Three:  What do you enjoy most about SFCP? (check all that apply)
13 respondents commented on what they enjoy most about SFCP.  The themes fell into these categories:

  • A specific beloved program
  • Gain value, meaning, education from being involved
  • Mentorship from experienced analysts
  • They enjoy when feeling welcomed

Question Four

Question Four:  What do you think stops more people from joining SFCP? (check all that apply)
53 respondents commented on what they think stops more people from joining SFCP.  The themes fell into these categories:

  • Lack of diversity and inclusion
  • Perceived conflict between members and perceived fiefdoms
  • Personal financial barriers
  • Lack of  awareness of benefits of psychoanalysis
  • Lack of  Center-wide marketing

Question Five

Question Five:  If one change could be made to SFCP that would increase your satisfaction with being a member of SFCP, what would it be?
105 respondents noted one change that could be made to SFCP that would increase their satisfaction with membership.  The comments fell into these categories:

  • Diversity Inclusion
  • Wider range of programs, including for graduate analysts
  • Changes in leadership structure/ less hierarchy, clearer how to join committees 
  • Changes in candidate training, including decreased costs, less time consuming
  • Friendlier environment, respectful, increase personal connections
  • More appreciation for contributions of low fee work and – possibly compensation for teaching and major committee chairs
  • Return to more focus on psychoanalysis
  • Become more relevant – get involved with outside organizations
  • Building location changed for increased safety

Question Six

Question Six:  How likely are you to recommend SFCP membership to non-members?  
86 respondents commented on how likely they are to recommend SFCP membership to non-members.  

73% indicated they are very or somewhat likely to recommend SFCP membership.

Question Seven:  Would you be willing to participate in a focus group?
The 61 respondents who indicated a willingness to participate in a focus group are not being listed here.  They will be contacted when we are ready to implement the focus groups.
