After Sun (2022), directed by Charlotte Wells is an intimate drama that explores memory, connection, love and loss. This poignant semi-autobiographical film explores the relationship between a 11-year old girl and her father (Paul Mescal) as they vacation together at a Turkish resort. The film invites viewers to witness a moment in time and reflect on the impact that this connection will have whence it is processed in the future. The father is wrestling with his depression and unspoken queerness while the daughter observes, engages and wanders in her own world as she tries to make contact with her father who she rarely sees. Their dance of connection and distraction pulls us in as we try to understand their intense wordless dance for love. Visually stunning and emotionally intense, After Sun is a beautifully rendered exploration of identity, knowing, not knowing and longing while confronting unspoken pain. Please join Reyna Cowan PsyD, LCSW as she experiences the film together with you the audience.
Food and drinks will be provided at the film event.
